For Steve Bolte, Danella’s Vice President of Business Development North America with Danella Rental Systems, leadership is about putting the customer first. And that’s all about building relationships.
Steve has worked for Danella since 2015, but has spent his entire career in the industry. “The railroad industry is very relationship-driven.” Steve says, “You get to know people very well. You know their families. You know what’s going on in their personal lives.”
“Every business has its share of problems. But it’s how you deal with those problems that makes the difference. It might not always be pleasant, but you have to face the music and make things right.”
The relationships create a foundation for trust. Steve says, “The trust factor builds up. The relationship starts the process to build loyalty. But you have to be ready to work. When issues pop up, you have to jump on it and do what’s right for the customer.”

It might not always be pleasant, but you have to face the music and make things right.” For example, when someone is looking for a long-term equipment rental solution from Danella, it may be an opportunity for the company to go above and beyond to help satisfy the request, even if they don’t have it available. “We may go out and actually purchase that piece of equipment so that we can serve the needs of that customer,” Steve says.
In addition to his role at Danella, Steve is the Vice Chairman of the National Railroad Construction & Maintenance Association (NRC). At the NRC, Steve is focused on helping the next generation step up and progress in the industry. “We want to see more young people and more diversity in our industry.” Steve says, “Our industry is evolving, and technology is playing a bigger role in railroad operations than ever before. This is leading to lots of opportunities for young people to come in and make careers in the railroad industry.”
Steve lives in Jupiter, Florida where he enjoys boating, fishing and golf. He’s been married for 40+ years and has 2 children and 4 grandchildren.
